Icebox Cake...

I made my Icebox Cake over the weekend and it was a huge success!  Not only in appearance but also in taste.  I didn't have any trouble finding the Nabisco Chocolate Wafers like I thought I would.  They were in the regular ol' cookie aisle.  I would like to try my hand at making my own someday but for the sake of time {and sanity}  I took the easy route this time.

And boy was it easy!!  It took me about 30 minutes to make the cake and about 24 cupcakes {at least 10 of which I ate that night} Talk about an easy project with great results.  I had so many compliments on it, I think you all should try it too!

Edison Light Bulbs...

I am loving the look of the Edison bulb.  I first heard about them on Dear Genevieve on HGTV {love her so much more now that she is not on Trading Spaces anymore and she actually has a budget}  These are such an unexpected, whimsical touch.  Has me wondering where would I have to go get some!

Living in small town Midwest doesn't always make these purchases easy.  A little prior planning is needed.  I am thinking that Lowe's could possible have them but my best bet would be Temper Electric.  If you live in the area and you haven't checked this place out- you need to.  Even if it is only for inspiration.  I currently am pining for a retro fan that they sell.  I am patiently waiting but one day I am gonna buy it...maybe I'll pick up some Edison bulbs too....

1920's Icebox Cake...

                                                                                                  Image via

I was inspired by The Food Network Channel a couple weeks back to make an Ice Box Cake.  It looks so unique and delectable that I had to make one of my own but I needed a reason.  So for my aunt's surprise birthday party tomorrow I am whipping one up today along with mini "cupcake" versions.

                                                                                                       Image via

The best part of this cake is you are suppose to make it ahead and pop it in the fridge so that the chocolate wafers absorb the sweeten whipped cream and it becomes soft like chocolate cake...yummo!  Can't wait to share the pictures with you all.

I am sooooooo excited to throw my future sis-in-law a shower for her and my brothers up coming wedding.  I am even MORE excited that she requested a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang theme.  How darling of an idea is that???

I am thinking there has to be a lot of candy {Truly Scrumptious anyone?}.  Am also thinking a picnic theme with lots of beautiful vintage quilts, old picnic baskets, and pretty dishes.  Lots of ideas going people!  Wedding planning mode has been turned back on.

                                                                          Image via

Why is it so much more fun and less stressful when it's not your own wedding?{I am loving it}  Bring on the inspiration and thrifting!

Oh I am also thinking photo booth with tons of old victorian hats and dresses {it's just and idea don't judge me...}

Wedding picture coffee table book...

More then anything else I wanted a coffee table book of our wedding.  And this past weekend that wish became a reality.  This turned out even better then I imagined- thanks Brad Hart Photography!!!

I also really want to do more tutorials.  Anything you want to learn about???  Leave a comment or email me!

The Spare Oom...

I know what you are thinking.  It's spelled room...but haven't you seen Chronicles of Narnia? {great books as well as movies by the way}  That is what Ryan calls our little ol' guest room.  I got a wild hair and decided to whip this room into shape using only things that I have around the house.  A little poking around in all of my various junk stashes I came up with this:

Give it a Bed and Breakfast feel for your guest, use plenty of flowers and candles!

Make you bedding inviting and make sure to have plenty of extra blankets on hand.

Wanna learn how to arrange pictures like this?  Young House Love has a great tutorial!

Candy stashed in a duck is always good...

A nice bedside place to put things like earrings, cellphones, or wallets.

So that was my spare room magic!  A little IKEA, ReStore, and vintage loveliness all comes together to create an inviting space for all of our house guests.  Now I just need to actually paint it haha!  It is the only room I haven't touched yet.  I don't know if you can tell in the pictures or not but there are several nail holes that we covered in mud that still need sanding {NOT feeling handy lately}

But all that will come with time.  In the mean time don't I have pretty junk?

Mini Cupcakes with Raspberry Whipped Topping...

Wanna make something yummy for your honey?  These mini cupcakes are so easy you will be whipping them up all the time {and your friends will think you are the perfect domestic goddess}.

Mini Cupcakes with Raspberry Whipped Topping

Ingredients:

White cake mix {any kind will do}
Eggs
Oil
2 cups of whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar
2 packages of fresh raspberries
Mini muffin pan

Directions:  Heat oven to 350 degrees.  Prepare cake mix according to directions on the back of the box.  Grease your mini pan and use a melon scooper {or a spoon if you don't have a scooper} to place batter into the pan.  Cook for 15 minutes and then place on a rack to cool.

In a separate bowl pour two cups of whipping cream in with 1/2 a cup of sugar and mix with an electric mixer until mixture is light and fluffy and makes peaks when you pull up your beaters.  Using a fork smash your raspberries and then fold them into the whip cream.

Top the cupcakes with the raspberry topping and enjoy with someone you love!  Wishing you all a Happy Heart Day!

Turning 27...

Today I woke up with 3 kitties in bed.  Even Walter {who is the most unsocial, he only loves me, and he only lays with me in bed if I am crying or it's a special day...I don't know how he knows...he just does}

I then stumbled out of bed {I stayed up late watching Decoded on The History Channel} to find this...

Then a little later these came...

I loved getting my fist Wife birthday card {made me get a little teary}

I also got to have lunch with my mom and both my sisters  Such a good day!  So I am sighing off for the week to kick back, relax, and celebrate after an afternoon of running around doing errands. {like meeting with our lender}

Happy weekending!

17...

Sorry I haven't posted this week!  I have been sick, sick, sick.  Sick in a way that I hope I never will be again.  Ugh.  And I have a birthday tomorrow...super ugh.  But I am excited to celebrate my little sister Abbey, who is turning 17 today!

What a fun age to be.  Seventeen was one of those magical teenage years for me.  I had a boyfriend who I adored, I had a car, and a job.  I was officially a grown up {in my own mind} without any of the responsibility that comes with it.  You feel free and safe all at the same time.  Life is just starting to get exciting and you are looking at your future with such bright optimism {why can't we hold on to that forever???}.

So today in honor of the almost ten years between us {almost exactly to the day!} I am going to share with you 10 things I love about my sister...

*She was the worlds cutest baby.  Seriously.  Bald, chubby cheeks, and always had a smile.

*She use to be a tomboy just like my mom.  {being a girlie girl myself that whole sporty boy world is a mystery to me}

*She is hysterical {I am not really allowed to tell stories anymore because I usually end up telling an embarrassing one!}

*She's no push-over {in a lot of ways}  and I am super proud of her for standing her ground in whatever she believes in passionately.

*She is so fast.  My dad use to take us over to the softball diamond so I could work on softball but little four year old Abbey could already out speed my around the bases.  Now she is being scouted by schools  to play in college : (

*She's so pretty!  She is who I wanna look like when I grow up!  Long Jennifer Aniston hair, green eyes, and freakin tan skin- naturally!  Even in the dead of winter this girl has color.  {poor pasty white me}

*She is the best secret keeper but don't tick her off cause she will hold it over your head and she is good at it.

*This girl can put food down!  I thought that when I was that age I could eat but Abbey oh man!  If you invite her over and you notice that she starts to get a little cranky- feed her fast!!!  She needs food and she needs it plenty and often. {where does it all go???}

*She is a lover of people.  She is a social butterfly.  From toddler time on she loved having friends, as many as she could have around her.  She loves all types of people {again which makes me so proud!}

*And the last and most special thing that I love about my sister right now, is that I get to take her on a trip to France next year when she graduates!  I cannot wait to shop, shop, shop!  I am so excited to see her grown into an adult and the friendship that I hope we have through life and I think this trip is the perfect start for our grown up relationship!

So Happy Seventeen Abba daba doo!  We all love you very much and hope this year is the best one yet!

The end of the 30 day challenge...

This is the end of the 30 day challenge. Did I work every day on my house? No. Are we ready to put our house on the market? No. But I am looking at this as a success...why? I'll tell you why... Because.

Because I am blogging more {and that makes me happy!}

Because I love my bathroom every time I go in it {seriously every.single.time.}

Because I got a new sink today {with a garbage disposal!!!}

Because my entire house has new matching electrical outlets! {thanks dad!}

Because the nasty old stanky carpet is gone! {nuf said}

Because I love my new spare bedroom {thank you Ryan for letting me get a floral duvet at IKEA this time}

Because this has given us the kick in the butt we needed to get this cozy little house that we love on the market and on to the next owners who will love it as much as we do {fingers crossed}

And here is a picture preview of our master bedroom {with more before and afters coming soon} just... BECAUSE!!! : )

Snow and snacks...

Brrrrr!!!!! I don't know about you but we are in the middle of quite the winter storm. Ice, rain, sleet, snow-thunder! What? Yes! We have chances for a thunderstorm in February. But I am not complaining because I got to leave a whole hour early from work today! {my doctor NEVER lets us go home early so this was special!} I also don't have to go in tomorrow morning!!! Possibly {fingers crossed} not at all.

So what is a snowbound girl to do on a blustery winter's night? Make Valentine Cupcakes! {obviously!} Cake mix, tub of frosting, and clearance aisle Christmas sprinkles = super cute red, pink, and white cupcakes!

My cake mix was white because that is the only kind that Ryan likes {how can one just like white cake I do not know} To make my cuppy cakes a little cuter I added red dye to the wet cake mix. This turned the batter a loverly shade of pink.

Just add sprinkles {99 cents!} and cute liners {IKEA} and you have a truly scrumptious winter snack. Eating these makes me want to craft a Valentine Box {you remember making those in school? For all the Valentines you got from your friends? I use to adore making mine every year}

Are you stuck inside with this winter weather? What do you do to pass the time?
