Sourdough Starter {In my kitchen}...

I find that a duck's opinion of me is influenced by whether or not I have bread. A duck loves bread, but he does not have the capability to buy a loaf. That's the biggest joke on the duck ever. If I worked at a convenience store, and a duck came in and stole a loaf of bread, I would let him go. I'd say, "Come back tomorrow, bring your friends!" When I think of a duck's friends, I think of other ducks. But he could have, say, a beaver in tow.
-Mitch Hedburg-

Unlike the duck
I do have the capability
to buy a loaf
but
I am trying to save money right now.

So
today I made...

Sourdough Bread Starter

What you need to make your own:

Mix the whole package of yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and let dissolve.
Mix in all ingredients with yeast mixture and add the other 2 cups of warm water.
Cover with a cotton cloth for 5-10 days.
Stirring 3 times a day.
You know it is done when it has a fermented aroma and it is not bubbling.

So I guess we will talk more in 5-10 days...

Cha-cha-changes in the kitchen...

A few weeks ago before I was done working I had some vacation time
and so I sent myself to work in the kitchen
It had been 3 years since I had gone through all my kitchenware
and let me tell you-

IT WAS STUFFED TO THE BRIM!!!

I had sets of three for almost everything
too much stuff
and so I purged,
and purged,
and purged some more
and let me tell you...

Purging when you are 8 months pregnant takes time!
Getting down on my hands and knees and cleaning out cabinets...
It was not an easy feat
I think my dad and brother would have enjoyed watching it
almost as much as they enjoy watching me attempt to work out to a fitness video
{I am horribly uncoordinated}

By the end my kitchen had never looked better
inside and out
but we all know
the fun photos are of the outside...

My kitchen is my happy place
I wish had some before pictures so you could really appreciate
just how far it has come
from bachelor days
to domestic bliss

I dreamed a dream...

When I lived in Germany the family I worked for had an amazing coffee machine.  It was made by an Italian company called Saeco.  This particular machine sold for something like 3,000 Euros upwards of 5,000 if you want one delivered to the U.S.  It made lattes and espressos and coffee by the cup.  It even ground the coffee beans fresh each time.  It was AWESOME.  I literally had dreams about this machine when I cam back home.

Since moving back to the States I have never, ever, seen a Saeco anything let alone an espresso machine.  Sunday afternoon me and Ryan hit the thrift stores and found this baby for just $6.99!!! Nicely used models are selling on eBay for over a hundred dollars.  Score!  Just shows you that you never know what you will find at Goodwill.  One mans trash is another mans treasure...
